free screening of a triple bill of short films about the East End

The evening starts at Bishop Challoner School in Lukin Street, Shadwell, at 6.30pm and includes the premiere of All Hallows - a short documentary on All Hallows Church Museum made with Bishop Challoner Girls under the direction of Lucy Johnson.

Phil Maxwell and Hazuan Hashim documented the lives of six tenants of the East End Homes housing association in their 30 minute movie East End Lives.

Their interviewees include a Jewish refugee from Germany recalling his fleeing of Nazi purges in 1938, a 'rent an Oz' teacher from Adelaide and an Asian single mum who talks about raising four children with the anti-racism movement as a backdrop

East European refugee Robert Vas's 1962 short The Vanishing Street will also be screened.

The film recalls life in and around Hessel Street in Stepney just before the bulldozers moved in.
